June 28, 1865, the Army of the Potomac is officially disbanded after fighting the first major land battles of the Civil War, First Manassas (as Army of Northeastern Virginia), Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and finally to Appomattox Court House.
